Reunion

Hey everyone, it's time for the first news post in years!

We miss the old days of Black-Cell and the great times that we all had; many of you have expressed interested in a reunion and it's something we've always wanted to do as well. And we figure it's about time that we try to make it happen! We're currently planning on having a server up in about two weeks, thanks to ExEric3, with it then staying up for about a month. Within that month we plan on having scheduled reunion games on the weekends, reminiscent of the old RvM games we used to have.

More details will be coming as it gets closer, so if you can find you CDs, then dust them off and get Renegade reinstalled and ready to join us for some fun!

We'll be trying to get in contact with all the old players via email, Steam, and Facebook, but we might miss some. If you know someone who used to play on BC please tell them about this for us.

Site back up (we think)

The main site and forums are now back up following a hosting issue. The WoW forums will be back up shortly and our hosted sites will be coming up slowly. For the most part things should be working, however a few things will probably be broken or missing for a bit. Also, the restored database is from August 27th, so a few posts and stuff are missing. Some people may need to re-register on the TeamSpeak server as well as that has been restored from a January database.

Donations and Renegade Server Status

First off, we are currently running short on donations and would be grateful to anyone who can donate. Secondly, we will be moving to a cheaper server later this month, possibly one that will not be able to handle BC4. We can spend a bit more for one that will be able to handle BC4, and it would still be cheaper than our current setup, but with donations in the state they're in I would prefer the cheaper server. We're still running short even with either of the cheaper servers though, so don't let this deter you from donating. Unless enough donations come in, we will be getting rid of BC4. Even then we may still be getting rid of it, since as you probably know it's been mostly empty and I don't see much point in paying for an empty server; but of course it's also up to you guys as you pay for most of the cost through donations. We can try to acquire an a0 server name in order to bring more players in, but it's not guaranteed that we'll be able to get one.

Forum Overhaul

As I'm sure most of you have noticed by now, we've made some drastic changes to the layout of the forum. Frankly, we got tired of the mess it had become. Off topic spam in many posts, topics going in the wrong boards, topics about different games mixing in the same board.

So we decided to make the following changes to better organize it:

The News, IRC, and TeamSpeak boards have been moved to the Network category because, well, thats where they belong.
Sub category dividers have been added to the Network category to divide it into Game Divisions and Services(TS and IRC).
The Off Topic board has been renamed to General Discussion, it will now be more heavily moderated and spam will not be allowed. A new Off Topic board has been added which will serve as a place for lighter topics.
Each game now has its own screenshots child board.
All games that support it now have a child board for downloads, modding, mapping, that kind of stuff.

Website changes

We've made some changes to our website that will hopefully make it more functional and easier to navigate while allowing us to easily expand to other games. The biggest change is that we now have subsites. At the moment we two subsites, a Renegade Servers subsite at http://ren.black-cell.net and a WoW Guild subsite at http://wow.black-cell.net. The basic function of subsites is:

Only news pertaining to what the site focuses on will be displayed (e.g. Renegade Server news on the Renegade Servers subsite). There will now be a seperate news board for each subsite to accommodate this.
The left sidebar navigation will change depending on which site you're at. For example, links to Dragonade will only be on the Renegade Servers site and no longer on the main site. However, there will always be "Network" and "Sites" links on every page which will provide links to things like the forums and the various sites.
Various site specific things such as live stats for BC4/BC5 on the Renegade Servers site.

The main site will now act as a portal to the rest of the network, displaying headlines from and links to all other network sites.

Were looking for a talented graphics artist who would be interested in making site layouts, banners, buttons, that kind of stuff, for us. If you're interested in the position then please PM me with samples of your work. A knowledge of HTML is required.

OMG ADS

Yes, we now have ads. We know they're not everyone's most favorite thing, but currently we are just testing them. Depending on the amount of money they generate, we may or may not keep them. Black-Cell is almost four years old now and the other day I did some calculations on how much money has been spent keeping the servers up and such. It turns out over $10,000 has been spent over the last few years. So yeah. We wouldn't have been to do it if it weren't for generous donations and I thank all of those that have donated, but if this can lessen our need to rely solely on donations that'd be great. Don't let that discourage you from donating though as we still need donations. Recently we've been running a little low on donations (which is one of the reason's we're trying these ads), so if you can, please donate.

Those who have donated and are registered will not see ads on the forums. We do not have a way to do the same with the website yet, but hopefully we will at some point if this becomes permanent.

Also, if you can, please email (ads@black-cell.net) any URLs of crappy ads selling WoW gold and stuff like that so that I can blacklist them.
